Deborah Swinson is an accounting professional with over 15 years of experience in working with various organizations and companies in managing their financial data. Her career started immediately after graduation from high school at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. It was then that she decided to pursue a career and earn a degree in accounting. Shortly thereafter she was blessed to obtain a new job at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) in Washington, DC where she worked in various academic departments, the Board of Trustees Office, the Office of the President, and the Office of Internal Audit. Her career at UDC lasted for 25 years. She was not only an employee at UDC, but matriculated at the university and earned her Bachelor’s degree in accounting. As a retiree from a nonprofit in Maryland, she continues to work as a contractor for various organizations and companies offering her expertise in accounting.
Always having the desire to serve and to help others, Deborah demonstrates this in her community, her church, and with family and friends. Family, friends, and colleagues know that they can always reach out to her when in need or if she sees a need, for she is more than willing to do what she can to help.
Deborah considers it a privilege and an honor to serve as a Board member on Gateway Second Chance Foundation Board of Directors. For it is most rewarding to be able to have a share in making a difference in the lives of this next generation.
